Fees
Many of our more common legal matters are well-defined and can be billed at set rates. When you first instruct us we will provide a written Terms of Engagement setting out the job to be done and the fee, plus a payment arrangement. This provides certainty for everybody.
Where the scope of legal work on a file is not clear at the outset, you are entitled to expect a written estimate of the final fees. If, later, the fees are likely to exceed this estimate we will alert you to this fact and agree on a further estimated cost. We recognise that shock bills create disagreement and are bad for business.
Systems
Client files are handled via a central legal practice management system which is accessible to every team member in the firm. This records a summary of each file and every action taken to progress the work to completion.
Documents (which are the lifeblood of the work of lawyers) are generated automatically from the data entered about the individual file. Common processes, which may include time-critical events, are also built into dynamic precedents to ensure consistent workflow.
Hard copy documents are electronically scanned so that all file materials, including emails and faxes, are available to the lawyer onscreen. This dramatically reduces the need to fetch the physical file, saving time and promoting efficiency. It also cuts down the chronic turnover of paper which bedevils much of business practice nowadays.
